Four Houses, One Hawthorn: A School Identity Mural

The project
Hawthorn Academy wanted a large-scale identity mural for one of the school's primary common areas, a high-traffic stairwell landing visible to every student and visitor moving between floors. The concept: showcase the four school houses (Altruismo, Amistad, Isibindi, and Reveuk) alongside the school tagline, Be kind, be brave, be you.
The school needed a partner who could translate the concept into finished, permanent wall art without disrupting the school day or leaving behind anything that would peel, fade, or require replacement in a few years. Hand-painted murals were ruled out because of the tight install window. Vinyl was ruled out because stairwell walls get brushed hundreds of times a day and vinyl seams are the first thing to fail in that environment.
Wall Printing Studios handled the full scope: illustration of the four custom house crests and the ornate frame detail, color approval, on-site wall prep, and UV-cured direct-to-wall printing. The entire install completed in a single visit. No scaffolding, no wallpaper paste, no drying time. The stairwell was fully usable the same day.

Why direct-to-wall printing was the right fit
No seams, no edges, no curling
Direct-to-wall UV printing bonds ink directly to the paint and drywall. Unlike vinyl, there is no adhesive layer to peel or wallpaper seam to separate over time. Important for a stairwell that gets brushed by hundreds of students a day.
Safe for schools
The UV-cured inks release zero VOCs after cure. No solvent off-gassing, no odor, and safe for continuous student presence immediately after install.
Custom artwork, not a template
The four house crests (Altruismo, Amistad, Isibindi, Reveuk) were illustrated specifically for Hawthorn Academy. No clip art, no stock template. Original design reviewed and approved by school leadership before production.
Ten-plus year interior lifespan
UV-printed installations last decades indoors. Scrubbable, fade-resistant, and built to survive the environment schools put their walls through.
